LP tennis duo falls to eventual state champs

After finishing as the Section VII boys tennis doubles runner-ups, the Lake Placid tennis duo of Henry Becker and Soren Jacobson competed in the state at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows.

In the first round of the tournament, Becker and Jacobson fell to Edgmont’s Elijah Johnson and Nicholas Peng 6-0, 6-2. Johnson and Peng went on to win the state title for doubles tennis.

Becker and Jacobson were the lone Blue Bombers tennis players represented at the state tournament. Last season, Lake Placid sent three players — one singles and one doubles team. The top three teams from each section are chosen to compete at the state meet.

Section VII’s other two tennis team’s including Section VII champions Marcus Bedard and Owen Roberts, of Northeastern Clinton and Peru’s Gavin Mero and Elijah Lederman also lost in the first round.

Bedard and Roberts were topped by Newburgh Free Academy’s Aarav Shah and Henry Goings-Perrot 6-0, 6-0 while Mero and Lederman lost to Williamsville East’s Arjun Pindiprolu and Yonten Gyatso 6-1, 6-0.
