After kicking off the season last week, the Saranac Lake baseball team has stumbled across a rough stretch. The Red Storm were defeated 26-4 by the Beekmantown Eagles at Petrova Field Monday afternoon.

Fielding errors from Saranac Lake and solid pitching from Beekmantown’s Doug Duncan helped lead to Saranac Lake’s downfall. Duncan struck out nine batters in five innings, while his team rallied offensively with 17 hits en route to the win.

The Eagles’ Patrick Hagadorn and Zachary LaPier had three hits each. Sam Bingel, Steven Bronson, Parker Broughton and Rylan Garden chipped in with two hits each.

The Red Storm recorded seven hits in the game. Senior Evan Willett had two hits, and junior Dillon Wilson had the team’s lone extra base hit with a triple in the bottom of the third inning.

Adam Lewis took the loss in the pitchers’ circle for Saranac Lake. After Lewis was relieved in the fourth inning, the Red Storm used three pitchers — Clancy van Laer, Connor Coventry and Zack Goetz — to close out the game.

Saranac Lake, which dropped to 0-3 overall, is slated to host the AuSable Valley Patriots at 4:30 p.m. today. The Patriots are 2-2 and recorded their two wins against Northern Adirondack.
