SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake track and field teams swept the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the squad’s second home meet of the season on Tuesday.

The Red Storm boys were dominant, cruising to a 102-10 victory, while Saranac Lake’s girls triumphed 90-40.

In the girls meet, Michaela Gillis, Addison Ash, Cadence Kennedy and Ally Bourgeois won multiple events to pace the Red Storm.

Gillis won four events, earning victories in the 100, 200 and long jump. She also ran a leg on Saranac Lake’s 1,600 relay alongside Ash, Bourgeois and Guenette.

“There were a lot of performances today where I felt our athletes took a leap forward and showed a lot of determination,” Saranac Lake girls head coach Jason Wamsganz said. “Cadence Kennedy, Clementine Guenette, Nelle Aaron and Zoe Carpenter in the 1,500-meter, Ava Faubert, Lexi Whitacre in the long jump, Muna Kujabi and Georgia McMinn in the triple jump and Molly Butler in the 800-meter.”

Kennedy, an eighth-grader, won the 1,500 and the 3,000-meter events. Ash won the the 400, while Bourgeois ran a leg in the 400 relay, alongside Zuleyka Oliveras, Maddy Stavenhagen and Raiana Baumann.

“The girls have done a really good job of staying focused on getting better and working on the little things that will help them down the road,” Wamsganz said. “I was impressed by all of our younger athletes today, they are working hard and continue to be coachable and driven. Cadence Kennedy, Lane Locke, Lila Zobel, Jovie Schenk, Annaliese Goff and Anika Wamsganz really had some nice performances today. Addi Ash and Michaela Gillis were two of our top performers and really helped anchor the track and jumping events. Cora Hotchkiss and Lena DeDivitis were solid in the throws and keep improving each week. Ally Bourgeois is a workhorse and as we expected, she is consistently scoring points. Raiana Baumann has shifted gears a bit and has started running some mid-distance events and shows great promise.”

Kujabi picked up a win in the high jump event, while DeDivitis won the shot put and Hotchkiss was victorious in the discus event. The victory was the first of the season for the Red Storm girls, improving the squads overall record to 1-2.

“Our girls have been supporting and cheering for each other, no animosity, just a great team spirit,” Wamsganz said. “That’s what it’s all about and that’s what coach Ash and I are most proud of.”

NCCS’ Holly Visconti won three events — the 100 and 400-meter hurdles and the triple jump. The Cougars’ Alex Cone was also a double winner, earning a victory in the 800-meter and she was a leg in the 3,200 relay alongside Lindsay Williams, Anna Racine and Maddie Arno.

In the boys meet, Saranac Lake won every event except the 400-meter relay, which saw the Cougars team of Richard Watson, Cameron Racine, Ashton Taylor, Jacob Debordinois come out on top. The high jump was uncontested.

Liam Nobles once again led the Red Storm with four wins. Nobles won the 110 hurdles, 200, long jump and triple jump. Jake Kollmer was a triple winner, placing first in the 1,600 and 400, while running a leg in the 3,200 relay alongside Sam Madden, Sam Bickford and Will Tromblee.

Madden, Elijah Schenk, Soren Wolford and Sage Kite-Whidden won the 1,600 relay. Wolford picked a win in the 100, while Bickford topped the 800 field. Cameron Garrett and Keaton Daley won the 400 hurdles and the 3,200, respectively.

The Red Storm also swept the throwing events with Ryan Sanford winning shot put and Dustin Burke placing first in discus.

“We are improving. We saw some good things tonight from several of our athletes and we are trying new athletes in some events that will allow us to find success for sectionals,” Saranac Lake boys head coach Cy Ellsworth said. “Our athletes are hitting PRs and they are working real hard in practice. Many of our guys have never been counted on to make an impact on a team before and we are beginning to see good things from guys like Cameron Garrett, Sam Bickford, Sam Madden, Elijah Schenk, Austin Shoemaker, Keaton Daley and Ryan Sanford. These guys have been overshadowed over the last few years by athletes who are now college track athletes. I am proud that they are now making an impact on our team and scoring points. They are being asked to fill a new role and we expect them to continue to keep the bar high within our program.”

With the win, the Saranac Lake boys improved to 2-1 overall. Both teams will compete against the Beekmantown Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday on the road.
