LAKE PLACID — In their first home game of the season, just about everything seemed to be working for the Lake Placid softball team. The Blue Bombers routed the Willsboro Warriors 22-7 in five innings on Friday to improve to 1-1 on the season.

After coming off a tough loss to Bolton/Schroon Lake/Newcomb on Tuesday, Blue Bombers head coach Mary Kopcienski said the team made fewer defensive errors this time and got the job done.

Reid Pedu, a junior, pitched a complete game while striking out two batters to earn her first career varsity win.

“(Pedu) did really well for us,” Kopcienski said. “She didn’t pitch in the game against Bolton. She just stayed consistent and trusted her defense with the plays behind her.”

The Blue Bombers got off to a strong start as all nine of their starters were able to reach base in just the first inning while scoring 12 total runs. Lake Placid recorded five hits and nine walks during that stretch.

“I think we were just able to connect with the bats,” Kopcienski said. “We just waited for our pitches and drew a lot of walks. We were just able to capitalize on the opportunities that presented themselves.”

Trailing 12-0 in the top of the second inning, the Warriors found some life, scoring seven runs of their own, however, those were the only runs that Willsboro scored.

Lake Placid’s Kyra Jordon ended the game on a two-run RBI double in the fifth inning.

The Blue Bombers finished the game with 12 hits. Kiera Levitt led the charge offensively with four hits, while Pedu and Molly Riggins had two hits each.

Following the win, Lake Placid is slated to take on Crown Point today at home. The game will start at 4:30 p.m.
