Storm to host Hornets in hoops semis tonight

SARANAC LAKE — A season ago, the Saranac Lake boys’ basketball team saw its season come to an end at Plattsburgh High School when they lost to the Hornets 75-54 in the Section VII, Class B playoffs.

Tonight, the Red Storm will look to get its revenge over Plattsburgh — this time on their home court. The sectional semifinal game will be played at 6 p.m.

Monday’s game marks Saranac Lake’s first postseason play after earning a bye as the second seed in Class B. The Red Storm finished the regular season by winning four of its last five games en route to an overall record of 12-8.

The Hornets enter the contest as the three-seed, having beaten sixth-seed Peru 82-40 in the quarterfinal round on Thursday. Plattsburgh is 9-12 overall.

In the lone matchup between the two squads on Feb. 2, Saranac Lake came out on top 61-53 after a second-half rally.

The game will also be a whiteout, where all spectators come dressed in white. Red Storm head coach Daryl Crist asked for those wanting to attend tonight’s game to wear a white shirt.
