SARANAC LAKE — After the Saranac Lake varsity volleyball team’s undefeated season ended after falling to Plattsburgh, the team bounced back in a big way.

Playing at home, the Red Storm defeated the Northeastern Clinton Cougars 3-0 on Thursday. The team won by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-12.

Saranac Lake head coach Mike Navarra said the biggest factor tonight was making sure the team was in the mindset that they are the same team prior to losing its first match of the season.

“We had to bounce back in some way and we did,” Navarra said. “We faced a really great Plattsburgh team. They were firing on all cylinders and I have to respect the fact that they went out there and took it to a really good team that we have. NCCS came in and I told them. We have to be prepared for any team. It’s the end of the season.”

Playing against the Cougars, the Red Storm seemed to cruise to victory in each set. The team won each set by double digit points en route to the team’s 10th sweep of the season.

Saranac Lake was led by Azra Michael. Michael had a team high 17 assists as well as seven points. Anica Null had a standout performance as well with 11 kills and seven points. Isabella Burcume also tallied seven points in the match.

Tailor Whitson was dominant on the defensive side for the Red Storm. She had four digs in the match.

Saranac Lake had a combined 16 aces in the match. Navarra, who has credited the consistently great serving as the biggest factor in the Red Storm’s success, said he wants to keep up the consistency heading toward the end of the season.

Following the win, the Red Storm now hold a record of 13-1. The team will take on the 11-2 Peru Central Nighthawks at home on Tuesday. The Nighthawks currently rank second in the Champlain Valley Athletic Association with the Red Storm holding the top spot.

With a tough matchup approaching Navarra said he has been mixing up the game plan a little bit by working in different rotations, but he will mostly stick to what has been working for the team.
