LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid’s boys netted three nice goals and turned in a strong effort on defense to notch a 3-0 victory Thursday over Northern Adirondack in Northern Soccer League Division II action on the Blue Bombers’ pitch.

Cooper Grady, Tyler Hinckley and Parker Anthony each scored a goal and Jack Armstrong earned the shutout win in net for Lake Placid, which improved to 3-2-2 in league play and 3-3-2 overall.

Grady’s goal was the only score in an evenly played first half, and turned out to be the game-winner.

“We’ve played some good stuff since the season started. It was good get a clean sheet again,” Lake Placid coach Stuart Hemsley said. “The games we’ve lost, we lost by a single goal. We’re in every game. When we score one, we tend not to concede one, so that’s a good habit.

“Defense looks steady,” Hemsley added. “We defended well today, and we can build off our defense. We crashed the net a couple of times, whipped great crosses in, skimmed some stuff past the post. There are goals to be had from all over.”

Grady, a speedy junior, finished off a Blue Bombers rush for the game’s first goal, taking a feed from Sebastian Narvaez and firing a low shot past Bobcats’ keeper Tim Stickney into the right side of the net with 14:43 left in the opening half.

The Blue Bombers defense then came through twice before intermission to preserve their one-goal edge. The first time came on a Bobcats’ indirect kick inside Lake Placid’s penalty box on a play where Armstrong made a big save on a blast from in close. The second bullet Lake Placid dodged was on a NAC corner kick in the closing seconds that saw at least three Bobcats have a chance at the ball when it bounced around in front of the net.

Lake Placid took control in the second half. Hinckley, a senior defender, put the Blue Bombers up 2-0 on a great shot with 21:32 remaining in the game. On the play, Matt Brandes sent the ball from near midfield into NAC’s defensive end, Hinckley took control of the pass on the left side of the Bobcats’ penalty box and launched a hard, curving shot into the far upper corner.

Anthony then rounded out the scoring in the closing minutes, ripping a shot from in close that went into the middle of the net just below the crossbar. Anthony was called up from junior varsity a game ago, and now has two goals in two matches played.

Hemsley credited Hinckley, Brandes and Brendan Bullock, who are all defenders, with strong performances.

Lake Placid outshot NAC 10- 6.

“We have speed up front, but we still haven’t had a chance to work on formations and what runs they should make because we’ve been struck with injuries,” Hemsley said. “We’ve got 15 on the roster and three were on the bench today unable to play, and two were starters. “

The Blue Bombers christened their new scoreboard Thursday, and prior to the contest, Hemsley joked with NAC coach Damien Nevader that he didn’t want to see the visitors putting any number except for a zero up during the match.

“I said to Damien I didn’t want any score from the guest side on the new scoreboard, so I lucked out today,” Hemsley said.

Lake Placid’s next match will be on the road Monday against Chazy, with the opening kickoff slated for 6 p.m.
