SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Placid girls hockey team headed into Christmas weekend riding high with a 3-0 victory on the road Friday against Franklin Academy.

SLP got a goal in each period from three different players and a 17-save effort from netminder Whitney Battistoni on the way to winning its opening league game of the season.

Faith Fell scored midway through the opening period, Tess Stanton netted a power-play goal in the second and Rylee Preston buried a puck with 24 seconds remaining in the game to lead SLP.

Preston and Stanton also added an assist each in the win to finish with two points, Lea Hill chipped in a pair of assists and Shelby Jewtraw and Allie Chamberlain contributed one assist apiece.

Michelle White had a strong outing between the pipes for the Huskies, finishing with 24 under sustained pressure from SLP.

“Good road win and first league game of the season,” said SLP coach Bill Peer. “We’ll enjoy this one and get ready for our home holiday tournament.”

Saranac Lake Placid’s girls will be at the Civic Center Thursday and Friday for their event. Action kicks off at 4 p.m. Thursday as Canton and Plattsburgh square off, with the SLP-Ithaca matchup slated to follow at 6 p.m.
