Tupper falls short in 5-setter

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake volleyball team opened the match with two victories but couldn’t hang on as Edwards-Knox escaped with a 3-2 Northern Athletic Conference win Wednesday night.

Powered by the strong play of senior Rebecca Delair, the Lumberjacks opened the match with a 25-18 win the first game and a 25-11 advantage in the second game. The third game went back and forth, but Edwards-Knox emerged as the 25-20 winner. The Cougars finished the victory with a 25-14 win in the fourth game and a 25-10 win in the fifth.

Delair finished with 30 points, six kills, 13 aces, two blocks and three digs. Teammate Maddie Kentile contributed 55 sets and Alamanda King chipped in nine points.

The Lumberjacks fell to 0-10 with the loss, while Edwards-Knox improved to 5-6.

GIRLS SOCCER

Chateaugay 6, Tupper Lake 1

TUPPER LAKE — The Chateaugay girls soccer team used a persistent offensive attack to secure a 6-1 Northern Athletic Conference victory over Tupper Lake on Wednesday.

Sophia Martin accounted for Tupper Lake’s goal.

Jenny Jones racked up three goals and an assist and Chloe Champagne had two goals and an assist to lead the way for the Bulldogs.

Tupper Lake dropped to 0-12-1 overall with the defeat. The Bulldogs are 10-2-1.

BOYS SOCCER

Seton Catholic 2, Lake Placid 1 (OT)

PLATTSBURGH — Nate Boule scored the game-winning goal at the 5:45 mark of overtime Wednesday to lead the Seton Catholic boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Lake Placid.

Seton Catholic took an early advantage after Matt Ladeiu scored in the fourth minute of the first half. Lake Placid answered toward the end of the first half with a goal by Joaquim Benavides.

The two teams played scoreless soccer in the second half, before entering into the extra session.

Seton Catholic outshot Lake Placid 24-18, with Blue Bombers junior Jacob Novick keeping the Knights at bay with 16 saves in goal.
