SARANAC LAKE — It’s been ages since the Saranac Lake girls lacrosse team has risen above the .500 mark.

On Thursday, the Red Storm did just that, posting a 15-3 victory over Ogdensburg to improve to 3-2 in Section X play. Competing for the first time on home turf this season at Schroeter’s Field, Saranac Lake got goals from 10 different players in the win.

Sophomore Lindsay Rath led the way with four goals, and Lydia Bullock and Kate Broderick both found the back of the net twice. Sydney Andronica, Mistre Newton, Rylee Preston, Riley Fischer, Aurelle Fogarty, Kylee Clark and Hannah Bradley chipped in one goal each.

The victory gave Saranac Lake a regular season sweep over Ogdensburg, and Red Storm coach Shannon Muldowney said she was happy to see her team spread the ball around in an effort to get a lot of players in the scorebook.

“Hannah Bradley, Sydney Andronica and Kate Broderick all scored the first goals of their varsity career, and their teammates were really trying to make that happen,” Muldowney said. “The girls were setting each other up, and that was exciting to see.”

Saranac Lake surged out to an early 5-0 lead before Ogdensburg got on the board. The Red Storm led 9-2 at halftime.

The loss kept the Blue Devils winless, and Ogdensburg coach Matt Curatolo said the score could have been more lopsided had it not been for the performance of goalie Bree Prosser, who finished with 23 saves.

“She played out of her mind,” Curatolo said. “We haven’t won yet, but everyone is hanging in there and working hard to get better. We’re really young.”

Erica Swirsky also had a strong performance in net for the Red Storm.

The win was the second straight for Saranac Lake, and came on the heels of a big 13-7 triumph in Potsdam on Tuesday. The Red Storm will be back at home again Monday to host Massena starting at 5 p.m.
