High School Roundup: SLP laxers win regular season finale

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Placid lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with a win after the team defeated the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils 9-5.

SLP seniors Alex LaDue and Sydney Dann were solid in the last home game of their varsity career. LaDue recorded a hat trick with two assists, while Dann recorded two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Phoebe Peer had two goals and two assists for SLP, while fellow sophomore Addy Dann scored twice and had an assist.

SLP had a strong game defensively and their goaltender Emma Wood picked up eight saves in the win.

The girls finished the regular season with a 5-8 record. SLP was slated to take on Potsdam in the Section X Class C/D Quarterfinals on the road Sunday.

GOLF

Lake Placid 6, Saranac 0

LAKE PLACID — Brady Tremblay and the Lake Placid golf team finished the regular season red hot, after sweeping the Saranac Central Chiefs 6-0 on Friday at the Craig Wood Golf Course in Lake Placid.

The win marked the team’s sixth win in a row and Tremblay’s 10th time earning medalist honors after the shooting a one-under par 34 to defeat Saranac’s Dax Lashway 34-40.

Lake Placid’s Chris Byrne had the second-lowest score of the day with a 35. Byrne defeated Nathan Hamel 35-41.

Grady Draper, Carver Bell, Alex Wright and Seb Cecunjanin picked up wins for the Blue Bombers. Draper defeated Gage Coryea 43-55, Bell topped Cole Dingman 40-53, Wright beat Jason Mather 47-63 and Cecunjanin defeated Noah Terry 48-62.

With the win, Lake Placid finished the regular season with a record of 9-1. The team will play next at the Ticonderoga Country Club for the first day of Sectionals at 9 a.m.

Lake Placid 5.5, Peru 0.5

The Blue Bombers came away with a 5.5-0.5 win over the Peru Nighthawks at the Harmony Golf Course on Thursday.

In the top match, Tremblay and Peru’s Keegan Smith entered the final hole tied. But after recording a birdie on the ninth hole, Tremblay came out on top by one stroke to win 32-33.

Byrne won his match over the Nighthawks’ Nicholas Palmer, 40-44. Bell, Wright and Cecunjanin recorded wins in their matches for Lake Placid as well. Bell topped Peru’s Hayden Pelkey 41-50, Wright defeated Brady O’Connell 48-57 and Cecunjanin took down Isaac Hathaway 55-69.

The Nighthawks’ lone points came in the third match, with Draper and Liam Clark tying 42-42.
