Burth, Scanio reclaim Nordic ski titles

LAKE PLACID — After having two races canceled due to the weather, the Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and Keene varsity Nordic ski teams returned to racing on Thursday.

The three teams raced a 6k classic course on the older “legacy trails” at Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid.

In the girl’s race, Lake Placid won comfortably with a team score of nine, while Saranac Lake had a score of 18.

Saranac Lake’s Tyler Burth was once again the top female finisher, with a time of 28 minutes and 7 seconds. The Blue Bombers claimed the next three spots, with Sam Damico in second place, Harley Cohen in third and Maya Garrison in fourth.

Keene’s Pia Morelli was her team’s top finisher. Morelli finished in fifth place.

On the boy’s side, Saranac Lake was victorious. The Red Storm won with a score of 10 to Lake Placid’s 14.

Lake Placid’s Andrew Scanio regained his place atop the individual podium after falling to second place a week ago. Scanio finished with a time of 20:41.

Scanio was followed by Saranac Lake’s Owen Keal and Sam Ash, who finished in second and third place, respectively.

The three teams will race again at Dewey Mountain on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
