Red Storm girls improve to 2-0

SARANAC LAKE — Grace Clark scored in the first half and Kylee Clark connected in the second as the Saranac Lake girls soccer team beat AuSable Valley 2-0 on Thursday.

It was the second win in two tries this season for the Red Storm, who were winless last year.

Mecalyn Sousa made 15 saves in goal to record the shutout for Saranac Lake.

Grace Clark scored the game’s first goal on an assist by Ryley Fisher. Kylee Clark put the game away in the second half after receiving a pass from Sousa from the goal.

Lake Placid 1, ELW 1 (OT)

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid and Elizabethtown/Westport girls soccer teams both scored penalty kicks withing a four-minute span of the second half Thursday in a Northern Soccer League game that ended in a 1-1 tie after overtime.

Lake Placid’s Natalie Tavares scored the game’s first goal on a penalty kick three minutes into the second half. ELW’s Rachel Storey answered with a PK of her own four minutes later. Neither team was able to muster a goal for the remainder of the second half or overtime.

Lake Placid outshot Elizabethtown/Westport 20-2. Brooke Paries was credited with two saves for the Blue Bombers and Madalyn Fuller stopped 20 for the Griffins.
