To the editor:

Do we really need another dollar store in the area? We already have two in Saranac Lake and one in Lake Placid. The residents of Bloomingdale have to travel into Saranac Lake to shop, drop kids at school activities, go to doctor’s appointments, etc. Can they not visit the stores in Saranac Lake during these trips? And why does Bloomingdale have to settle for a “less than” store than Lake Placid? Compare the stores in the two towns — Aubuchon, dollar store, Kinney and Walgreens. Why is so much more money invested in the Lake Placid facades? I expect it’s because the zoning or planning board demands it. It’s time for the neighboring communities to stop taking second-best. My concern is that the area will not be able to support another dollar store and we will have another vast empty parking lot, like Asian Buffet. I urge the residents of Bloomingdale to consider these points.
