School district raises limit for senior exemption

To the editor:

The Board of Education for the Lake Placid Central School District has just passed a resolution increasing its Senior Citizens’ Exemption limit to $36,400. This limit will go into effect on the 2021 tax roll, which will be published on July 1. Please keep in mind that this doesn’t have any effect on the STAR exemption or credit check.

The assessors’ offices are responsible for evaluating income and determining eligibility. Exemption Coordinator Deborah Mueller may be reached at 518-523-1975 for the town of North Elba. Town of Wilmington Assessor Alphonso Smith may be reached at 518-946-7128. If you have already contacted their office and were denied an exemption because you exceeded the income limit, please contact them again to see if you will re-qualify with the higher limit.

The application deadline is March 1. Applications will be mailed or sent electronically so that it is unnecessary to appear in person.

Sincerely,

Dr. Roger Catania

Superintendent

Lake Placid Central School District
