Sheriff needs road patrol

To the editor:

Your May 11 issue had a front-page story about the Tupper Lake police nabbing a suspected heroin seller. The arresting officer testified before the grand jury, which indicted the suspect. Thereafter, the Tupper Lake police took the suspect to the Franklin County Jail.

What’s missing from the story is the Franklin County sheriff, who has no road patrol because the county legislature continues to play Scrooge! The taxpayers of the three county villages are paying the price. Their police departments should become the core of a Franklin County sheriff’s road patrol.

That would provide better pay, training and a career ladder for village police officers while lifting an unfair burden on village taxpayers! Thank you.
