Stefanik has time for award but not talk

To the editor:

Time and again, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s constituents have been told by her district and D.C. schedulers that she is too busy “legislating” to meet with us in a town hall meeting to hear our concerns. But she was recently at a Republican retreat and just yesterday had time to make a highly scripted appearance at Save the River — not to meet, listen to or speak with her constituents, but to use as a photo opportunity across all of her social media accounts, and on the front page of the Watertown Daily Times.

It was not lost on us that on Saturday she accepted a “Friend of the River” award just days after voting to allow pollution of our waterways to increase. Even though her schedule will likely continue to too full to meet with us, we want her to remember who she is representing; she has a responsibility to the voters whose tax dollars are allowing her to legislate — often against her constituents’ best interests.
