Long Lakers raise $2,000 for High Peaks Hospice

To the editor:

Temperatures were a record-breaking 7 degrees when the fourth annual “Feeling Long Lakey” Polar Plunge took place at the Long Lake Town Beach on Dec. 31. The plunge was a charity event organized by Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department to benefit High Peaks Hospice and raised an amazing $2,000 toward the hospice nurse certification campaign!

The nursing staff at High Peaks Hospice would like to thank Long Lake Parks and Rec Director Alex Roalsvig and her team, including Cindy Black, Steph Hample, Erik Arsenault, volunteers Barbara Gachowski, Barbara Taylor, photographer Jim Lanthier, Peter Michael Marino, who emceed the event, Supervisor Clark Seaman, the town council, the Long Lake Fire Department and the Long Lake Rescue Squad. A special thank-you to the daring, adventurous and very entertaining plungers: Paul Roalsvig, Shane LaRose, Denis Martin, Russell Clinard, Paul Martin, Stephanie Howe, Christopher Howe, Thomas Scott, Spencer Schindler and Kelly Gottstine, and all of you who showed up to cheer them on! Your support will allow us to hospice certify two of our nurses so we can deliver the highest quality of care to our North Country patients and their families.

With sincere gratitude,

Susan Rdzanek, development coordinator, and High Peaks Hospice nursing staff
