LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Sinfonietta presents an in-school residency by Wavelength Winds, a student woodwind quintet from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13 and 14, the ensemble will visit the Lake Placid Elementary and Middle High Schools, and St. Agnes School. Activities will include performances for students, master classes and classroom visits. The quintet will also take part in the popular Lake Placid Elementary School “lunch and learn” program.

On Monday, March 12, at 7 p.m., the quintet will perform for the general public at St. Eustace Church on Main Street in Lake Placid.

There is no admission charge for this concert, but free will donations will be accepted at the door.

This program is made possible by the efforts of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta’s Education Committee with additional support from the Glenn and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation.

Wavelength Winds is a woodwind quintet that includes five student musicians from the Eastman School of Music: Isaiah Obey, flute, Gaia Saetermoe-Howard, oboe, Maxwell Zhang, clarinet, Ava Conway, horn, and Nina Laube, bassoon. At the Monday evening performance, the group will perform several selections including a piece by Paul Taffanel, “A Year in the Catskills” by Peter Schickele, and “Cinq Danses for Wind Quintet” by Henri Tomasi.

The Lake Placid Sinfonietta is the only professional orchestra in the Adirondack Park. This summer the Sinfonietta will celebrate its 101st performance season with a festival of performances from July 4 through Aug. 12.
