‘Collage’ opens at NorthWind on Aug. 2
SARANAC LAKE — NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery will host a casual opening for member artists Lee Ann Sporn and Shawn Halperin’s new exhibit “Collage” on Friday, Aug. 2 from 5-7 p.m.
Shawn works in four different mediums — mixed media, oils, wood carvings and jewelry. This new collection includes mixed media collage using various combinations of paper, bark, oil on canvas and wood.
Lee Ann enjoys using a variety of mediums to create abstract pieces but also detailed scientific illustration style drawings in acrylic and colored pencil. The new collection includes abstract pieces created using papers, acrylic paint, pencil, charcoal and pastel crayons. She is experimenting with scaling up to create works of larger size.
“Shawn has a unique knack for simplifying the complexity found in nature while bringing out the whimsy and allure that attracts us to it,” a news release from the gallery reads. “In her pieces, Lee Ann attempts to give the viewer a glimpse of the complexity, energy and movement she observes during a moment in time in the natural world — ‘the happening.'”
NorthWind Fine Arts is a cooperative art gallery with eight member artists. It’s open daily during the summer, 10-4 p.m., at 85 Main St. in Saranac Lake.
