SARANAC LAKE — Last summer, Pendragon collected play titles suggested by audience members. Pendragon’s Executive Artistic Director Karen Kirkham reviewed those titles and chose six of them to be presented in November 2016 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as readings.

Audiences then voted on their favorites. This was the second year of the theatre’s popular Patrons’ Pick Program.

Last year, the play “Art,” by Yasmina Reza won the most votes and was produced in May and June. The winner this year was “Fiction” by Steven Dietz, which opens this coming Friday and runs through June 25.

First produced in 2003, “Fiction,” according to The Associated Press, “is a work of uncommon insight; an adult, unsparing and yet often witty look at the intimate relationship between a man and a woman during a time of crisis.”

In the play, Linda and Michael Waterman are both successful fiction writers, happily married to one another. However, when Linda is diagnosed with a tumor, she asks her husband to share his diaries with her. The boundaries between past and present, fact and fiction, trust and betrayal begin to break down, and that’s all before Michael reads Linda’s diaries. No life, as it turns out, is an open book.

According to Allison Studdiford, the director of the Pendragon production, “This script is so very timely as it raises questions about memory, truth, personal interpretation, honor, lies and love. It will be very interesting to hear from the audience: who is telling the truth?”

The cast consists of John Nicholson, Tara Palen and Leslie Dame. There will be an opening night reception after the performance on Friday night.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.pendragontheatre.org or by calling the box office at 518-891-1854.

Pendragon Theatre is located at 15 Brandy Brook Avenue, Saranac Lake.
