Hurd, Orsini join for Saturday concert at Will Rogers
SARANAC LAKE – Saranac Village at Will Rogers will host a performance by Roy Hurd and special guest Frank Orsini at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20.
Songs performed are about life and living in the Adirondacks.
Hurd held a staff songwriting position in Nashville from 1990 to 2001, writing for two of the largest publishing companies in the world: SONY and Warner/Chappell Music. Roy has had songs recorded by Paul Brandt, Jo Dee Messina, David Kersh, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Gibson Brothers and more. Hurd has two Arts in Education programs he has developed for elementary schools. His “Walk on the Mountain” storytelling, music and woodland skills program for children teaches earth morals and his “Rhyme without Reason” songwriting program aims at giving young people first-hand experience in the songwriting processes.
Orsini, a fiddler, has been a member of long-standing groups and has worked as a free-lance player in live performance and recording projects. He performs a variety of music including traditional material through more contemporary styles and enjoys switching to viola, mandolin or guitar depending on the musical situation. His repertoire includes Elizabethan or early music selections, Celtic music from a variety of sources, old-time fiddle tunes from the Southern mountain tradition, New England and Canadian dance tunes, Bluegrass and Country Classics, Cajun, Blues, ethnic selections and Urban and Western swing standards.
This program is open to the public and a $5 donation is requested.
Refreshments will be served.
