Bombers golf splits first two matches

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid golf team opened up the season on Thursday by blanking the Ticonderoga Sentinels 6-0 at home.

Playing in cold and wet conditions at the Craig Wood Golf Course, Lake Placid’s Brady Tremblay was a medalist, carding a 37 to down Noah Wells, whose 49 was the low round of the day for the Sentinels.

Three Blue Bombers — Chris Byrne, Grady Draper and Carver Bell — recorded rounds in the 40s to earn wins. Byrne beat Alex Coffman 41-57 at the number two spot, Grady Draper topped Derrick Osier 40-60 at number three and Carver Bell defeated Kimmy Wojcik 41-60 at number four.

Lake Placid’s Seb Cecunjanin beat Ryan Cook 50-56 in the fifth spot, while Liam Gotham, a seventh-grader, topped Myron Geraw 68-70 to earn his first-career varsity win. Gotham competed in the team’s sixth position.

Moriah 4, Lake Placid 2

On Friday, the Blue Bombers golf team fell in its second match of the season. The team lost to the Moriah Vikings 4-2 on the road.

Competing in Lake Placid’s top two spots, Tremblay and Draper were medalists, shooting 38s to earn their team’s lone victories. Tremblay defeated Logan Gilbo 38-43, while Draper topped Silas Reeder 38-39.

The Blue Bombers’ next three golfers, Byrne, Bell and Cecunjanin, posted solid results but were ultimately defeated. Byrne lost to the Vikings’ Vance Hickok 40-42, Bell was defeated by Nick Winters 40-43 and Cecunjanin was edged out by Dieter Olcott 43-44.

Lake Placid forfeited the sixth position, giving Moriah’s Lance Synder the win. Synder shot a 52.

Following the loss, the Blue Bombers are now 1-1 on the season. The team is slated to play Saranac Lake today at the Ray Brook Golf Course. The match will start at 3:30 p.m.
