SLP girls lax reaches double digit wins

The Saranac Lake Placid girls lacrosse team defeated the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils 16-3 on the road Wednesday evening.

With the win, the SLP girls improved to 10-5 overall, marking its best record in well over a decade. The previous best was set last season when the squad finished 9-7.

“Our seniors stepped up on both offense and defense,” SLP co-head coach Jeff Denkenberger said.

SLP had contributions from nearly everyone on the field as eight different players recorded a goal in the win. Denkenberger said everyone needs to contribute every game.

“We can win if everyone does their job,” he said.

Phoebe Peer, a senior, led the team with four goals, and Emma Clark followed with three goals and two assists.

Julianna Tremblay, Tyler Burth and Fiona Webb had two goals each. Lizzie Harvey, Addy Dann and Kelsi Burth each chipped in with one goal. Dann and Harvey also had two assists each, while Kelsi Burth and Sabine Denkenberger each tallied one assist.SLP’s goalkeeper Samra Cirikovic had another solid performance, recording 11 saves.

SLP wrapped up the season Thursday with a 14-3 loss to the Salmon River Shamrocks. SLP will host a playoff game, with their opponent TBD.

“We need to clean up our little mistakes and be better in transition consistently to have a chance at a playoff win,” Denkenberger said.
