Have your voice heard at SLCSD budget vote

To the editor:

I commend Suzanne Miller for her guest commentary regarding the upcoming Saranac Lake Central School District budget and bringing it to the community’s attention. (“At Saranac Lake schools, funds for quality education should be top budget priority,” April 22, Adirondack Daily Enterprise.) While many districts are cutting positions and costs, SLCSD has propositions for artificial turf/lights/scoreboard, and bleachers/press box. With declining enrollment, the possibility of closing Bloomingdale School being discussed, and lower state aid, is this really the best use of district funds (taxpayer or otherwise)?

May 8 at 5 p.m. is the public hearing in the high school library regarding the upcoming budget vote. I urge people to attend this session.

The website www.slcs.org/departments/board-of-education is a great resource to view past and upcoming agendas/minutes, as well as view board meetings via video. The propositions can also be viewed on the website.

I strongly urge voters to get out and vote on our SLCSD budget and school board member choices on May 21. Voter turnout has been slim, at best, for many years. Whether you are a renter or homeowner, school taxes affect you. It’s time to make your voices heard!

Sincerely,

Terry Buckley
