Loving your neighbor?
To the editor:
Ben Douglass claims (“Loving your neighbor,” Dec. 6) there are many ways to love your neighbor besides affirming their gender identification. He suggests a Christian may love a neighbor by trying to “free him of a false mentality.” I don’t think the local transgender community is asking Ben for that kind of love. They’re simply asking that their rights become equal to his. They’re asking that, say, when a neighbor’s home is vandalized or their safety in public is threatened, people like Ben stand up to say something wrong is happening, no matter the identity of that neighbor. Of all the ways to love, wouldn’t that be the best one?
