Elsie the Cow was an icon

To the editor:

Elsie the Cow was the mascot for the Borden Dairy Company, representing the “perfect dairy product.” She was named as one of the top 10 advertising icons of the 20th century by Advertising Age in 2000. She has been one of the most recognizable advertising logos in the United States and Canada.

I saw her at the New York World’s Fair in 1964. She has received such honary university degrees as Doctor of Bovinity, Doctor of Human Kindness and Doctor of Ecownomics. In Wisconsin, she was named Queen of Dairyland. The Seneca people named her an honorary chief. And the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut, gave her its P.T. Barnum Showmanship Award.

I tip my hat to Elsie.
