Great soccer tournament in Max’s memory

To the editor:

We would like to offer heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who helped make the second annual Max Calderone Memorial Soccer Tournament such a success. It is always a bittersweet event for those who loved Max, but we are certain that he would be honored by the event, the level of competition and how much fun was had.

We would like to especially thank the sponsors of Max’s tournament: Guide Boat Reality, Lakeview Deli, the Shamrock, Adirondack Artisan Catering, the Kiwanis Club of Saranac Lake and the town of Brighton.

The true stars of the day were the players, parents and volunteers. Team Mighty Moose took first place in the under-14 division, Team Adirondack Freeze won the under-18, and Team Cowen’s Welding placed first in the over-18 division. The soccer was truly outstanding.

Special recognition goes to Julie and Kenz Cotter, David Knapp, Becca Bingham, Linda Brousseau, Gary Cowen, Josh Dann, Tim Tobin, Josh Marlow, Sarah Holvik, Heather Nicolia Oliver, Sara and Dan Burke, Beth and Danny Delginko, and others – you know who you are!

Due to everyone’s generosity, the Max Calderone ’12 Memorial Scholarship winner will be receiving $1,000 at Saranac Lake High School’s graduation this June.

Max’s family wishes to thank the community for their continued support and friendship, and for honoring Max and all he embodied in such a joyful way. We are truly grateful. MAXimize life!
