Bicyclists, drivers, let’s keep it safe

To the editor:

The busy bike and outdoor sports season is starting. People are out and about and moving on the roads.

Bike safety affects everyone.

There was recently a very minor bike/car incident on McKenzie Pond Road, which is a good bike path but may need some “Share the Road” signs. It’s narrow but safe. People tend to drive faster on it for sure.

We have runners, bikers and sight seers as well as workers (in a hurry) trying to get somewhere. Let’s all slow done and be safe.

Please do the following:

Cyclists :

-Bikers put on rear red blinking lights

-Wear bright colors

-Keep right (when you hear a car from behind)

-Don’t cross yellow lines

-Single up on narrow roads

-No foul gestures with hands

-Maybe consider a mirror

Drivers can do the following:

-Slow down (just a little)

-A light tap of the horn is OK from a distance out

Pretty simple!

Time really is fast enough!

If an accident occurs that will really put a damper to your time.

Let’s have a safe summer!
