SARANAC LAKE — The Midnight Stargazers cosmic country band are the spotlight artists for the Sober Open Minded Mic night at BluSeed Studios this month.

The band was formed in September 2021 by Rocky James, a singer songwriter who moved to the Adirondacks three years ago. The Midnight Stargazers play old classic country, country folk and country rock as well as original country tunes. The band performs live regularly around the region at many different venues and events, including The Great Hall Bar at Hotel Saranac, Mountain Mudfest, the Olympic Center and Mount Van Hoevenberg. The Midnight Stargazers also opened this year for Northern Current Community Music Festival at Riverside Park in Saranac Lake. The band consists of Rocky James on guitar, harmonica and vocals, Teresa Stephenson on vocals and percussion and Daun Reuter on mandolin.

The Sober Open Minded Mic Nights are a place where people of all ages can try out and share their talents. There are nine 10 minute performer slots, followed by the spotlight artist.

BluSeed Studios has a long tradition of providing alternate entertainment. The Open Minded Mic Nights were a local favorite and for years was one of the only local open mics. After the coronavirus pandemic, it became the Sober Open Minded Mic. Those interested in sponsoring a spotlight artist can contact BluSeed at admin@bluseedstudios.org.

The next Sober Open Minded Mic night is this Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., sign up starts at 6 p.m. Attendance is free, but donations are accepted.
