ArtWorks to go on its own in 2020

SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake ArtWorks is branching out on its own to be an independent not-for-profit organization and is encouraging community members with an interest in the arts to join them. Various membership levels are available from general support to gallery membership.

“There’s something that has caused our community to attract a lot of artists,” said Sandra Hildreth, one of the ArtWorks founders and current steering committee member. “Maybe it’s the inspiring environment, maybe the camaraderie and fellowship that has developed within the arts. But I do know that the arts have a positive economic impact. It’s not just income for the artists, but it brings people in who shop at our stores, eat at our restaurants, stay in our lodgings and possibly move here. Some might visit and say, ‘This seems like a great place to raise kids or retire.'”

ArtWorks existed under the fiscal sponsorship of BluSeed Studios, enabling the organization to financially function as a 501c3 non-profit. For 2020, ArtWorks is looking to stand on its own feet as an independent 501c3 non-profit organization with its own governing body.

In order to be listed in the ArtWorks 2020 annual print directory and website, membership registrations must be completed by Feb. 22, 2020.

Levels of membership include: $45 Basic/Supporting Artist; an introductory rate of $100 for first-year Not-for-Profit Organizations; $150 for Professional Artists; $200 for Galleries and $25 for supporting members.

Saranac Lake ArtWorks offers a wide variety of member benefits:

• In addition to its annual printed arts directory which is widely distributed, ArtWorks has maintained a website with an events calendar that links to member websites and events. The website is currently undergoing a user- and audience-friendly redesign and a comprehensive integration of its calendar of cultural events and a cultural event e-mail blast.

• ArtWorks will continue to sponsor its flagship events: Studio Tours, Third Thursday ArtWalks and the Adirondack Plein Air Festival, but will be making some changes to help brand the events and bring even more visibility to residents and tourists. Third Thursday ArtWalks will begin in June and end in September and will still involve artists and performers lining the sidewalks of downtown Saranac Lake.

The Adirondack Plein Air Festival may be expanding some of its artist offerings and have set the dates for Aug. 17-22.
