The Kingdom Choir to perform at LPCA Friday

(Editor’s note: This has been changed to reflect that the concert has been moved from St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts in Lake Placid.)

LAKE PLACID — In these challenging times, we could all stand to put a little extra joy in our lives.

That’s where The Kingdom Choir and the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir come in.

Those two choirs will perform on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Placid Center for the Arts, 17 Algonquin Ave., Lake Placid.

Following their show-stopping performance of “Stand By Me” at the Royal Wedding in May 2018, London’s The Kingdom Choir are bringing their infectious joy and inspiration across the Atlantic for a major North American tour.

Founded in 1994 by award-winning conductor Karen Gibson, the choir draws from various Christian traditions and is dedicated to creating a sound that reflects the community they share through their energy and enthusiastic performances.

The Choir’s rendition of “Stand By Me” went straight to the top of the Billboard charts and in November 2018 they released their first full-length album worldwide on Sony Music.

The group is led by Gibson, an award-winning choir conductor and workshop leader. Gibson has been involved with vocal groups and choirs for over 25 years, conducting gospel workshops across the U.K. and Europe as well as Nigeria, Japan, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and the U.S.

She has been instrumental in drawing together and conducting some of the most prestigious large-scale choirs for a variety of gospel and community initiatives. Karen has also run workshops for aspiring gospel conductors in the U.K., Poland, Norway and Italy. Karen currently works in schools across London teaching singing and training future leaders.

The Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir will open the performance at St. Bernard’s, bringing their own fusion of traditional and contemporary gospel styles. The choir is made up of students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members and actively performs throughout the region and beyond.

Their travels have taken them to Burlington, Albany, Memphis, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, Tokyo, St. Maarten and Trinidad, among other concert destinations. Organized in 1991 by students, part of the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir’s mission is to expose both SUNY Plattsburgh and the North Country to gospel.

The event is presented by the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. Tickets start at $20 and are available by calling the LPCA Box Office at 518-523-2512 or online at www.lakeplacidarts.org.

The LPCA thanks Beier & Associates for their support of this program.
