S’Wonderful: A Celebration of Family, Music and Life

SARANAC LAKE — On Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at Saranac Village at Will Rogers, mother-daughter duo Tomi and Gail Gallagher will gather around the piano to sing songs from the Great American Songbook.

For this performance, “S’Wonderful,” Tomi and Gail have chosen some of their favorites from Gershwin, Rodgers and Berlin. These timeless melodies with exquisite and funny lyrics will bring back years of warm memories and delight the audience with new ones.

For more than 60 years, Will Rogers’ resident Tomi and her daughter Gail have been singing songs together. From the age of 5, Tomi studied classical piano at the Academy of Holy Names in Albany and Julliard in Manhattan. She still has her baby grand piano, ‘The Lady,’ that Tomi received as a gift from her mother when she was 4 years old. At 95, Tomi is the accompanist for the Will Rogers Singers and for other special occasions. A beloved member of her community, Tomi was named queen of the Winter Carnival in 2006.

Gail began singing at special gatherings at a young age, and after working in radio, TV and educational media in Boston, she decided to pursue her love of music and began a professional singing career.

Since then, she has performed for hundreds of audiences along the east coast and has won rave reviews for her performances, CDs from music and theatre critics including VARIETY, the Boston Herald and PBS radio and TV. Gail produced her CD “Warm as a Late Spring Day” with her accompanist and arranger, EMMY award winner and Boston Pops pianist, Brad Hatfield.

This program is open to the public and a $5 donation is requested. Refreshments will be served.
