SARANAC LAKE – From Aug. 12-16, BluSeed Studios will offer a different creative experience combing art and science for children ages 8 to 12.

BluSeed Studios will be partnering with the Utica Zoo to bring area youth a hands-on art and science integration program. This year’s theme is all about water and the incredible journey from glacier to cloud. Campers will have the opportunity to create art and meet animals through projects that revolve around the water cycle.

Artist Carol Marie Vossler will offer instruction along with Utica Zoo’s Mary Hall. “It will be an amazing experience for the children to meet animals face to face and seamlessly integrate science and art through this unique learning experience,” Vossler said.

Ages 8 to 12 are invited to participate for a single morning (9 a.m. to noon) or for every morning of the week of Aug. 12.

The participation fee is $150 for the entire program or $35 per session. There are partial scholarships available for students participating for the full-week.

This program and the scholarships are made possible, in part, with a grant from the Stewart Holiday Match Foundation, Kate Mountain Farm and private donations.

Visiting instructor Mary Hall is an educator with the Utica Zoo. She brings 26 years of experience in environmental education and loves to share her passion and knowledge about the Adirondack forests. She earned her degree in forestry from Paul Smith’s College.

Vossler is a professional with varied experience in forest practices. She holds an art integration certification and has taught the studio arts for 20 years. She earned degrees in forestry from Paul Smith’s College, a bachelor of fine arts from Plattsburgh State University and a master of fine arts from Syracuse University.
