‘Peter and the Wolf’ at Will Rogers Saturday
SARANAC LAKE – On Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m., the Children’s Community Theatre at Saranac Village at Will Rogers will perform “Peter and the Wolf” with a modern twist, thanks to the dedication of resident Gail Wrenn.
If you live in Russia, you know there is a wolf prowling your village hunting food. Eleven-year-old Peter knows. He lives with his grandfather in the forest clearing outside the village. Peter is not afraid of the wolf.
In 1936, Natalya Sats, the director of a newly established children’s theatre in Moscow had an idea for a new piece and Sergei Prokofiev, who was a great advocate for music education, immediately agreed to write it. He wrote the story and composed the music in two weeks.
The result was “Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67,” a symphonic fairy tale in which the narrator tells the story while the orchestra illustrates it.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and can be purchased at Will Rogers, Ampersound in Saranac Lake and the Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid.
Refreshments will be served.
