SARANAC LAKE – “Adirondack Spring,” paintings by Sandra Hildreth, are on display at Essential Holistic Health, 41 St. Bernard St., Suite 4 in Saranac Lake until July 30.

A reception for the artist will be held Thursday, May 16 from 5 to 7 p.m.. Refreshments will be served and drawings for services from Essential Holistic Health practitioners will be featured.

Spring in the Adirondacks is often defined as mud season, but Hildreth defines it in her paintings as a time of subtle color and the first wild flowers.

“The time in between the snow and the full onslaught of summer green is a beautiful period in the mountains,” Hildreth said. “Budding trees bring a pale purplish pink haze of color to the forest and the first wildflowers are easily found before the more abundant undergrowth greens up and hides them.”

Hildreth is a retired high school art teacher who lives in Saranac Lake and displays her work at the Adirondack Artists Guild Gallery on Main Street and the L. Post Rustics Artisan Furniture and Fine Art Gallery in Lake Placid. Most of her paintings are done outdoors, from life, and she is a founding member of ArtWorks and the organizer of the annual Adirondack Plein Air Festival.
