SARANAC LAKE – BluSeed Studios presents an international musical trio of performers from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.
Fru Skagerrak takes listeners on a musical journey through Scandinavia: from lowlands to mountains, from slow airs to lively polkas, in major and in minor, and everything in between.
Known as Fru Skagerrak or “Lady Skagerrak,” the band features Anna Lindblad (Sweden) on vocals and fiddle, Elise Wessel Hildrum (Norway) on vocals, fiddle, recorder, viola; and Maja Kjaer Jacobsen (Denmark) on vocals/fiddle.
In 2011, these three globetrotting musicians met for the first time at Tonder Festival, Denmark’s biggest folk festival. After meeting at the festival for three consecutive years, Fru Skagerrak was born in 2014. The trio brings together the diverse traditions from each of the performer’s homelands, which surround the Skagerrak Strait.
Through a repertoire of traditional tunes, new compositions, and songs in their respective languages, the trio expresses their kinship and love of their shared heritage. The result is an explosion of the sounds that exist in Scandinavian music today.
BluSeed Studios is located at 24 Cedar St.
Admission is $20 for non-members and $17 for BluSeed members.
Fru Skagerrak Live at BluStage is sponsored, in part, by Upstate Auto with support from Best Western Mountain Lake Inn of Saranac Lake.
