BluSeed Studios introduces ‘Art Buds’ for preschoolers

SARANAC LAKE — BluSeed Studios announces a new program for 3- to 5-year-olds and their parents or caregivers to begin Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m.

Art Buds is an open-ended art program that promotes bonding for children, parents, grandparents and caregivers as they share in a messy and memorable art experience.

Adults are invited to come with a pre-schooler (or two) and enjoy learning and exploring child-centered, developmentally appropriate art. Activities are inspired by children’s books that introduce a variety of art concepts and mediums.

Presenter Jackie Foster worked in the early childhood field for 18 years. During that time her work took her to Tioga Opportunities Head Start and The Discovery Center, a play museum in Binghamton. She takes inspiration from play-based teacher, author and educator, Bev Bos. Foster’s workshop at BluSeed Studios draws on that theme by providing hands-on, open-ended art experiences themed to children’s books.

Children will be encouraged to explore various mediums, tools and processes that promote sensorimotor development. Memory, language and imagination will all be stimulated through the interconnecting of printed story and the physical manipulation of materials.

Foster will offer another “Art Buds” session at BluSeed Studios on Saturday, Dec. 15 using the same interactive format for adults and children. The sessions run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The fee is $15 per session for one adult and child, and $20 per session for up to four family members.

Jackie Foster’s best advice to attendees is: “Dress for mess.”
