SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Artists Guild will present “Back to the Roots,” a collection of photographs by Barry Lobdell. The exhibit will be on display for the month of December.

“The ‘roots’ I refer to in the title of this exhibit refer to both my beginnings as a photographer, working in a chemically based darkroom and producing black and white photographs, and to the trees which are my subjects,” Lobdell said. “I’ve been a tree-hugger for as long as I can remember, and there’s no sign of any change on that front. My love affair with trees began when I was a kid, climbing every tree I could find that was climbable. Many hours were spent swaying in the topmost reaches of my favorite trees, hugging tightly to their branches and enjoying the views.

“The photographs I’ve chosen to exhibit are documents about trees and all their parts. These days, all the photographs I take with my digital cameras begin in color. Some may be changed into black and white on my computer if I decide I prefer them that way. I’ve included a few images which regular viewers of my work will recognize, though they’ve previously only been shown in color. These particular shots have translated well into black and white and readily fit into the theme of the show. Other views on display have been photographed as recently as a few weeks ago to over 40 years ago, when I first started pursuing photography seriously.”

“Back to the Roots” will be opening at the Adirondack Artists Guild Gallery in Saranac Lake with a reception on Friday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m., and will remain on display through Jan. 2.

Regular hours at the gallery are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Adirondack Artists Guild is a cooperative retail art gallery representing a diverse group of regional artists residing and working in the Tri-Lakes region of the Adirondack Park.
