Yellowdog and Peter Novelli this weekend at Delta Blue

LAKE PLACID – As Delta Blue and the community get ready for next week’s Blues and Heritage Festival, two bands warm the stage this weekend: Yellowdog and the Peter Novelli Band.

Yellowdog will perform a free show from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday, June 13.

Based out of the Albany area, Yellowdog is considered the best acoustic duo in the Capital Region. Metroland Magazine Fan Poll 2010 lists Yellowdog as the best cover band in the area. Jason Young and John Repko have been jamming out acoustic rock since 1993.

When asked about their musical influences for the evening are described as “depends on the venue!” Look for this dynamic duo to be rocking out amongst the crowd and dancing with you!

The Peter Novelli Band will perform a free show from 9 p.m. to midnight, Friday, June 12.

Based out of New Orleans, guitarist, singer and songwriter Peter Novelli has been described as “a potent combination of New Orleans street rhythms, swampy backbeats, jazzy infusions, and a most sincere and innovative approach to the blues.”

He has collaborated and co-written songs with several Grammy-winning artists and songwriters. He performs around New Orleans and tours extensively in the U.S. and abroad.

Novelli started violin at age 6, picked up guitar at 14 after hearing a B.B. King record.

The intensity, passion and raw emotional content of the blues masters (black/white, north/south) stuck in his ear and that drives him to this day.

He likes to combine this feel with harmonic ideas of jazz, the relentless groove of zydeco, and just about any cool and unusual style of music or rhythm that fits.

Growing up, Novelli played in Syracuse rock, blues and country bands. He hung out, jammed and gigged at the legendary underground Jabberwocky (hosted artists from Townes Van Zandt to Bonnie Raitt, Traffic to Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jackson Browne to James Brown).

Delta Blue is located in Lake Placid at the Historic Hotel North Woods at 2520 Main St.
