Wildlife refuge to host annual Habitat Awareness Day

WILMINGTON – The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center will host the ninth annual Adirondack Habitat Awareness Day on Sunday, Sept. 4.

The event is free, but donations toward care and rehabilitation of animals will be gladly accepted. The refuge will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The theme this year is the changing climate, changing wildlife and changing realities of the natural world.

There will be kid-friendly exhibits, a silent auction and multiple speakers from wildlife and conservation groups around the area.

Mark Manske of Adirondack Raptors will close the afternoon by demonstrating bird banding and will also preside over the release of raptors rehabbed at Adirondack Wildlife.

There will also be refreshments and plenty of wildlife photo opportunities.

The refuge is open to the public Thursday through Monday and features 2 miles of family-friendly hiking trails with graphic narrative signs and places to picnic with great views.
