Rangers suspend search for missing man

PAUL SMITHS — State Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers have halted efforts to locate a man missing for several weeks.
After conducting a large-scale wilderness search near where Bruce Waite’s car was located, several clues were found, but the DEC said in its weekly ranger report that search efforts were concluded on Friday, July 13.
The search lasted eight days, and included 405 personnel putting in 6,400 hours. The search included 27 forest rangers, assistant forest rangers, environmental conservation police officers, State Police, Paul Smith Gabriel’s Fire Department, Franklin County 911 services, Search and Rescue of the Northern Adirondacks, and the State Department of Corrections Response Team. State Police Aviation, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and K-9 were also involved.
The search covered more than 2,000 acres north of Paul Smiths.
The DEC said that state police will continue the investigation and search efforts may resume if new information is found.
