SARANAC LAKE – At the end of the year awards ceremony at the Saranac Lake Middle School, the Village Improvement Society awarded students Cayden Heading and Jenna Niederbuhl with one-week, overnight camp scholarships to any DEC camp this summer.

VIS Campership Coordinator Donna Walsh presented the award certificates to Cayden and Jenna at the ceremony.

DEC camps in the Adirondacks provide youth with a hands-on approach to environmental education, sportsman education and outdoor fun. Campers learn outdoor skills as well as the essentials of backpacking, camping and canoeing. DEC camps instill a life-long passion for nature as well as stewardship of our outdoor resources. VIS is committed to providing camp scholarships for outdoor educational opportunities to local Adirondack youth each year.

VIS is a nonprofit organization staffed by volunteers who are dedicated to enhancing the natural beauty of our community. They own/maintain seven village neighborhood parks, and provide flowers and plantings throughout the village in the summer months. They are committed to maintaining these beloved parks for the enjoyment of future generations.
