Four local girls hockey players win state title

SARANAC LAKE – Four Tri-Lakes girls are heading to the USA Hockey National Championships after helping their Canton Blades teams capture New York State Tier II titles this past weekend in Utica.

Lake Placid’s Kendra Levitt and Harper Strack, Saranac Lake’s Kayla Harvey and Tupper Lake’s Anna Kavanagh all played key roles in the Canton Blades’ state championship runs.

Levitt is a member of the Canton Blades 16U team, while Strack, Harvey and Kavanagh skate for the Canton Blades 14U team. Both Blades teams went undefeated during the New York State Tournament, securing bids to the upcoming USA Hockey National Championships.

The 16U Blades, featuring Levitt, will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, for Nationals. The 14U Blades, including Strack, Harvey and Kavanagh, will compete in Rochester, Michigan.

Another Lake Placid player, Emma Clark, also earned a trip to Nationals. Clark plays for the Adirondack Northstars 16U, who qualified as the state runner-up after facing the Canton Blades in the championship game.

The 16U state championship game featured a matchup between the Canton Blades and the Adirondack Northstars, while the 14U championship game saw the Canton Blades defeat the Ithaca Shooting Stars to claim the title.

All teams will compete at the USA Hockey National Championships, March 25 to 29.

Levitt, Clark, Strack and Harvey are all teammates on the Saranac Lake Placid girls varsity hockey team.
