Bobcats snowshoe wraps up racing season

Runners came from across the Northeast to compete in the Frigus snowshoe races, run primarily on hiking trails that traverse nearly 2,000 feet of elevation gain in the 15-kilometer and over 550 feet of climbing in the 4.7-mile race.
Bryce Shannon of Sparrow Bush won the 15K snowshoe race in 1 hour, 44 minutes, 1 second, in his longest competitive running event ever. Shannon’s time was the fourth-best in the history of the Frigus 15K race.
Paul Smith’s College graduate, Zack Sprott-Scribner of Saranac Lake, placed second in 1:55:15, which was his second-best finish in the race. Sprott-Scribner established a personal record in 2022 with a time of 1:52:22, which still ranks sixth in Frigus history.
Mat Matis of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, placed third overall in 1:58:11 to rank ninth overall in the history of the event. PSC graduate Wes Burkit of Syracuse placed fourth in 1:59:32.

Timothy James of Lancaster, Massachusetts, placed ninth in 2:55:04, and was followed close behind by fellow classmate Brock Boissey of Cadyville, in 2:55:08 in 10th place. There were 29 runners who finished the 15K.
In the 4.7-mile snowshoe race, the Bobcats’ Aidan Minihan of Newark, Delaware, maintained his streak of snowshoe race victories, winning the competition in 1:02:43. He was followed closely by fellow teammate, Cazimir Couble of Spafford, New Hampshire, in 1:03:11 for second.
Paul Smith’s College graduate, Nat Ross, placed second for the women in 1:22:13 to earn a spot on the podium. Erica Goodman of Gansevoort won the women’s 4.7-mile race in 1:11:19 in a very strong performance. She placed third overall.
Reece Perry of Malone placed fifth for the men in 1:33:02, while Chloe Freund of Clinton placed sixth for the women in 1:39:45 and Joanna Kerchner of Bath, Pennsylvania, was seventh in 1:39:58. Devin Stalnaker placed 10th for the men in 2:02:47 to round out the Paul Smith’s College athletes in the 4.7-mile race. A total of 33 athletes finished the 4.7-mile race.
