SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls basketball team dropped its final matchup played at home this season, falling 58-36 to Beekmantown on Wednesday.

With the loss, the Red Storm fell to 3-16 with one regular season game remaining prior to the playoffs.

In her last time competing at home, senior Emma Akey had a memorable outing, finishing with a game-high 21 points. This included a 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line and draining a trio of shots from beyond the arc, giving her 51 three-pointers on the season.

Despite seeing his team struggle on the court, Saranac Lake head coach Ian Breen said his players have shown no quit.

“It’s been a tough year, but we’ve made some improvements,” Breen said. “We were 1-19 last year. The kids have played hard for most of the year, and they have gotten better. I’ve been pretty happy with that.

“Emma Akey has had a great year scoring-wise, and the other girls have contributed as well. It’s been a team effort,” Breen continued. “We’ll miss her for sure, but we have some girls coming up from the JV who are going to make us better, so we’ll see what happens.”

The Eagles, who improved to 7-10, used a balanced scoring attack and a strong effort on the boards in the win.

Lucy Conroy led the way, scoring 13 points in the victory. Carly Hagadorn also scored in double figures for Beekmantown, finishing with 11 points, and Olivia Miller and Olivia Hagadorn each chipped in nine points.

Also for the Red Storm, Ellie Willett finished with five points, Ashlyn Tomaszewski and Aria Knobel each tossed in four points and Sophie Baker added two points.

Saranac Lake wraps up the regular season at Willsboro on Monday, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Red Storm kicked off the season against Willsboro and came away with a tight 47-45 victory.
