Storm basketball teams fall

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls basketball team suffered a 32-20 home loss to the Chazy Eagles on Thursday.

The Eagles jumped out to a 12-4 lead after the first quarter, before the Red Storm put together a solid second and third quarter to make the deficit only two points. However, in the final quarter, Chazy outscored Saranac Lake 10-2 to seal the victory.

Emma Akey paced the Red Storm with nine points, while Aria Knobel and Mackenzie Crane chipped in with four points each. Ellie Willett scored two points for the team and Brooklyn Valentin had one.

Saranac Lake, which dropped to 2-10 overall, will travel to Brasher Falls at 7 p.m. on Monday for its next game against St. Lawrence.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Plattsburgh 57, Saranac Lake 54

The Saranac Lake boys basketball team fell to the Plattsburgh Hornets 57-54 on the road Thursday in a league contest.

The state-ranked Red Storm battled back from a 12-point deficit to even the game in the fourth quarter, but was unable to pull off the comeback victory.

Mik Denkenberger led Saranac Lake in the scoring column with 23 points, while Cedar Crist chipped in 15 and Zack McCarthy added 13. The loss drops the Red Storm to 7-1 in league play and 11-2 overall.

Up next, the Saranac Lake boys will host Northern Adirondack at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
