Storm Alpine skiers win three races
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Alpine ski team hosted eight teams from Section III this week at both Mount Pisgah in Saranac Lake and Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington. The Red Storm boys secured team wins in the slalom and Giant slalom, while the girls squad picked up a team win in the slalom.
Racing in the slalom at Mount Pisgah on Tuesday evening, the Saranac Lake boys were led by Leland Carpenter, who earned the top spot, helping secure the overall team win. Teammates Lukas Miemis followed next in second place and Gus Earl was fourth. Freshmen Colden Robinson and Sam Miemis also closely followed with fifth and sixth place, respectively.
The Red Storm girls also took first place as a team with Ida Schwartzberg finishing third, Kara Kretser in fifth and Lily Kramer in 11th place.
On Wednesday’s Giant Slalom at Whiteface, the Saranac Lake boys won again with a first-place finish in the team results. Carpenter put down the fastest time of the day, while Lukas Miemis finished in second by less than one second. Sam Miemis and Robinson again took fifth and sixth place. Gus Earl skied well, but a crash in the first run kept him out of the standings.
The girls had a tougher time in the Giant Slalom with an unfortunate “did not finish” that took them out of the standings.
