Red Storm sweeps home Nordic race

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Nordic skiers put together another strong performance, this time racing under the lights at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center Tuesday evening. Both the Red Storm boys and girls teams earned convincing wins in a race that used the Classic Technique over a 5K course.

Coming off a strong win at the Queensbury Relays, the Saranac Lake boys were in good form once again, winning the race with a convincing score, earning six points, to Lake Placid’s 22. The Red Storm girls won the three-team meet with a score of 6 points, while Lake Placid had 17 and Keene recorded 50.

Saranac Lake sophomore Liam Stoddard claimed his first varsity win in the boys race, finishing with a time of 17 minutes, 45 seconds. Teammate Emmett VanBuskirk challenged him all the way to the finish line, taking second place one second back in 17:46. Red Storm senior Keaton Daley rounded out the podium in third, with a time of 18:00.

Connor Mannion was Lake Placid’s top finisher, taking fifth place with a time of 18:50. Keene’s Brody Harrell led his team, placing 14th with a time of 22:11.

On the girls side, Saranac Lake sophomore Pepper Laxson also collected her first-ever varsity win with a time of 19:25.
