Red Storm girls hoops take down Ticonderoga
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls basketball team picked up a much-needed 27-22 league win over the Ticonderoga Sentinels on Wednesday at home.
It’s the Red Storm’s first league victory since Feb. 2024, snapping a 24-game losing streak in Champlain Athletic Valley Conference play.
Senior Emma Akey paced the Red Storm with 10 points, which included a pair of 3-pointers. Sophomore Aria Knobel added eight points, while Ashlyn Tomaszewski, a junior, scored five. Senior Ellie Willett and junior Mackenzie Crane each chipped in with two points for Saranac Lake, which improved to 2-7 overall.
After losing to Ticonderoga earlier in the season, the Red Storm found themselves narrowly ahead at halftime. But in the second half, the team took control, earning its second victory of the season.
Up next, the Saranac Lake girls will travel for back-to-back games this weekend. The team will first take on Whitehall at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Hudson Falls at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
